Technology diffusion literature

There is a large literature on technology diffusion across countries, and what factors facilitate it. Much of the empirical literature concentrates on microeconomic factors, that is to say, why individual companies adopt foreign technology. So the variables studied relate to perceived ease of adoption, perceived utility in use, and so on. Estimations often rely on surveys of firms. There is an apparently smaller literature on macroeconomic influences, but the work is still important, as governments find it easier to implement changes in interest rates, for example, than to effect cultural shifts in attitudes to risky new technologies.
