IMF projections on African growth in the global economic downturn

The IMF has published its projections for Africa during the global economic downturn. It anticipates 5.5 percent growth this year, and 5.1 percent growth next year.

The rates are still quite high, although lower than developing Asia. The difference between previous IMF forecasts and current IMF forecasts is however much higher in Africa than anywhere else, with a decline of 0.6 percent this year and 1.2 percent next year. That is to say, Africa is expected to be affected worse by the downturn than anywhere else in absolute percentage terms.
